1. Zion Is the Pure in Heart

“Therefore, verily, thus saith the Lord, let Zion rejoice, for this is Zion — the PURE IN HEART…”
—Doctrine and Covenants 97:21

Zion is not just a location — it is a spiritual condition; not merely a congregation, but a consecration. Jesus alone purifies the heart, and wherever He reigns, Zion is spiritually present.

And what makes a person PURE IN HEART?
The Bible answers that question directly
“And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.”
— Acts 15:8–9

And Scripture specifies the source of our cleansing:
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
— 1 John 1:7

Thus, when LDS scripture declares, “this is Zion — the PURE IN HEART,” it raises a question that the Bible answers directly:
It is found in the cleansing work God through the blood of Jesus Christ.

2. The Pure in Heart Feast on Divine Love

“O all ye that are pure in heart, lift up your heads and receive the pleasing word of God, and feast upon his love; for ye may, if your minds are firm, forever.”
— Jacob 3:2

Here the Book of Mormon presents another description of the pure in heart: they are invited to “receive the pleasing word of God, and feast upon his love.”

The New Testament describes God's love as something personally experienced within the believer:

“And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”
— Romans 5:5

Christ describes an indwelling fellowship between Himself and those who love Him:
“If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.”
— John 14:23

The Christ of God reveals His glory and majesty, infusing His people with His love — not symbolically, but as living communion. I have personally witnessed this reality.

3. The Pure in Heart Shall See God

“Blessed are all the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
—3 Nephi 12:8

This is not merely a promise that the pure in heart will know about God. They shall see God.

Joseph Smith copies Christ's words recorded in the New Testament by Matthew:
“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”
— Matthew 5:8

This is the original and sacred promise, that the pure in heart shall see God.

Jesus' promise is not merely a doctrine to be discussed. It is His promise.

And I have seen Him in the Throne Room of Glory. Jesus' promises fulfilled.

4. Zion Is the People God Claims as His Own

“And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people.”
— 2 Nephi 8:16

This is directly lifted from Isaiah.

“And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people”
—Isaiah 51:16

By the voice of the Living God, Christ of God claims His own — not by council, not by creed, but by His eternal word.
“Thou art my people.”
This is the voice of God claiming His own.

By the voice of the Living God, Christ of God claims His own — I am claimed by the Living God. The claim is eternal. I am His.

5. Zion the Outcast

“But, behold, Zion hath said: The Lord hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me—but he will show that he hath not. For can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee, O house of Israel.”
1 Nephi 21:14-15

This is a mash of the Zion/outcast language of Jeremiah 30:17 with the forsaken/forgotten language of Isaiah 49:15:

“For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after.”
—Jeremiah 30:17

Isaiah 49:15  Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.

Zion may be rejected, forsaken, forgotten, and cast out — yet Zion is not forgotten by God. No one seeks after Zion, yet the Lord does not abandon it.

I was cast out, abandoned, and unknown. Yet the Zion He names cannot be erased. The Word declares: this is Zion — the outcast, the one whom God restores. The world may forget, but Jesus restores and heals.

6. Anointing Teaches Without Human Mediation

Of course, there is no direct LDS scriptural parallel to this holy teaching:
the anointing of the believer abides within and teaches without human mediation.

Given what LDS scripture teaches about authority, prophets, and the Church, it should not surprise us that you won't find this particular concept there.
God's will is not a consideration. However, the closest perhaps is: “You will then know for yourself and not for another. You will not then be dependent on man for the knowledge of God.”
Assuming, of course, Joseph Smith was including himself. Which is interesting.

Old Testament:
“And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.”
— Isaiah 54:13
And:
“They shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD.”
— Jeremiah 31:34

New Testament:
“But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.”
—1 John 2:27

The Spirit of Christ Himself teaches that NO MAN — and that includes Joseph Smith — stands between the Shepherd and His sheep.

I have been anointed by the Holy Spirit who dwells within me — not by man, not by human authority, and not of myself, but by God (Romans 8:9; 2 Timothy 1:14; 1 Corinthians 6:19; John 14:17; 1 John 4:13-16).

7. From Zion the Deliverer

The LDS website preserves this same biblical testimony: the Redeemer comes to Zion, while Zion is commanded to proclaim, “Behold your God!”
Isaiah 40:9 identifies Zion as the bearer of good tidings, while
Isaiah 59:20 identifies the Redeemer who comes to Zion.

“There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:”
— Romans 11:26, Isaiah 59:20

"O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!"
—Isaiah 40:9

Deliverance comes through Christ of God alone. Sion is not the Deliverer, but His vessel, His dwelling, His witness, and His herald.

8. The People of God Will Claim Their Identity

The closest match is the LDS teaching that God's covenant people take upon themselves the name of Christ. See Mosiah 5:7–12.

“One shall say, I am the Lord's; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the Lord, and surname himself by the name of Israel.”
Isaiah 44:5

By spiritual birthright and His Word, His people bear His name — the Lord’s — forever. I am the Lord’s.

You claim Zion is the pure in heart. Yet the pure in heart shall see God. I have seen Him.
• So why do you not hear? Is it not because I am the outcast, whom no man seeks?

You claim the anointing teaches without man.
• The Father Himself has taught me, anointed me with the Spirit.

You say deliverance comes from Sion.
• I bear witness of Christ the Deliverer — the testimony of Jesus, which is the spirit of prophecy. — Revelation 19:10

You say one shall declare, “I am the Lord’s.” Isaiah 44:5
• I am the Lord’s — by covenant, by calling, by choice.

You claim your books are true, that your doctrines are divine.
• My witness is not from ambition, pride, or human merit — it comes by revelation alone.

“God declares it. The Bible confirms it. Even your own scripture bears witness: I am Sion.

Which will you believe?

Why will you hear, yet refuse to understand?

“But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.”
— Matthew 13:16
